3 Ways To Keep Your Pets’ Home Clean

Sep 8, 2020 | 0 comments

We know it’s their home and you just live there! Keeping a clean house for you and your pets is the first step in keeping them healthy, safe, and happy. It’s easy to forget how often we need to clean our pets’ leashes, bedding, food bowls, and other supplies. Here are some of the ways you can keep your furry friend healthy and happy in your home.

Clean Toys

Toys, especially dog toys, are generally covered in dirt and slobber. They don’t need to be washed every use, but if a game of fetch has you second-guessing your life choices, it’s probably time to clean them up. For KONGs, ropes, and rubber toys, we carry Skout’s Honor Toy & Bowl cleaner. It’s made with plant-based ingredients and is a gentle, food-grade cleaner. This means it is safe to use on items that will inevitably get into your pet’s mouth. Softer toys, like plushes, can be put in the wash with bedding. Bones shouldn’t be washed, but instead, just wipe them clean with a wet washcloth.  You and your pet will find a renewed interest in your favorite squeaky clean squeak toy.

Keep Food Bowls Clean

It’s no surprise the pet food feeding areas get messy! These can harbor bacteria that can make your pet sick. Using a safe, non-toxic cleaner is the best way to keep your pet’s bowls clean. You should clean your pet’s bowl after each meal to get rid of any bits of food. Water bowls should be emptied and washed every few days. You can run your pets’ bowls through the dishwasher or wash with hot, soapy water.

Wash Pet Beds

Many pet beds come with a removable cover. If this is the case, you can simply machine wash it every few weeks. How often will depend on how much your pet sheds or slobbers and how dirty the bedding gets. Just remember: the longer you go between washes, the harder it will be to get clean. Before washing, vacuum as much of the pet hair as possible. Then, wash your pets’ bedding and soft toys with an unscented detergent. If your pet has particularly sensitive skin, it may be helpful to do an extra rinse at the end of the cycle. Once the bedding is clean, you can hang it up to dry.
